Sony DRM hacks your PC – from Engadget

Summary: So sony is taking control of PC cd drives with their latest copyright protection. Once their software(rootkit) has been installed, you can only play the cd with the included player, stored on the music cd. Trying to remove their software disables the cd drive. [Sony Full Story]

There is a fine line between allowing consumers to have music wherever they are, and restricting use to pad RIAA pockets. This, I think, goes too far.

Sony was never big on MP3, though. Even their MP3 players don’t play music downloaded from a music store with DRM (Digital Rights Management). Why won’t they allow you to copy music from a Sony CD you’ve just purchased to any MP3 player, or from any CD you own to your Sony MP3 player? By not allowing you to purchase or rip music to Sony’s MP3 players, I think they’re going to go the way of the Clié. No wonder people are switching to Apple and iTunes.
