Allway Sync

Continuing the theme of things to do with your USB drive, I also just discovered the perfect syncronization app. It’s free, automatic, and stays out of the way once you set it up. Allway Sync lets you create jobs that can be performed on a schedule or as soon as you plugin in the drive. I have mine setup to syncronize my documents. The second I plug it in, it compares both folders and updates to the newest files. You can do it manually if you want, but I like not having to remember to sync before I go.

Pass2Go and Usb Autorun

I rediscovered RoboForm today when I found Pass2Go. It’s a portable version of RoboForm which keeps all your passwords and form autofill information on a USB drive. Any computer you go to, you’ll have all your passwords with you. When you pull out the USB drive, the program and all passwords are removed from the computer automatically.

This is all great, but to make it truely seamless, I wanted the program to automatically run when I plugged in the drive. Normally windows doesn’t autorun anything but cd or hard drives. After some searching, I found a tiny freeware app called USB Autorun which does just what I needed, looking for an autorun.inf file and running the application specified. This program can even make the autorun.inf files for you.
